A-Tor Community Center, Jerusalem

The A-Tor Community Center is a building built by the Municipality for the use of the inhabitants of East Jerusalem. The project combines in one building a Community Center (activity rooms and a Multipurpose Hall), a Family Health Station, a Day Care Center and a Gym. Every section received an entrance of its own.

 

The topography is slanted and rises towards the back part of the plot, a feature that leaded us, regardless of the independence of each section, to create a common interior natural lighting solution: a central space enjoyed by all the floors.

 

Even though the use of the Jerusalem stone is compulsory, we designed elevations with a light look, using large perforations for windows and lacelike elements as shades
