The Shikmim School, Rishon Letzion (1996- 2006)

Shikmim is a school for children with special needs.  We planned the different sections of the school as separate pavilions. The spaces in between them define intimate and peaceful outdoor spaces for the time in-between the lessons. To achieve unity in the plan we linked the different pavilions by large walls, part of them with openings, framing different views.

The complex is divided into two sections: the young section and the junior section. The young section contains therapy rooms. This is where an effort is being made to help the children return to regular schools. The junior section contains occupational classes and a small apartment, to prepare the children for life ahead.
